In addition to the water carried on the rescue and fire fighting vehicles, uninterrupted water supply is also provided in the form of a pit fire hydrant system running along the runways, taxiways and apron areas. The total number of pit fire hydrants within the airfield is 261.
Each pit fire hydrant is fitted with 4 outlets providing a water flow of 8000 litres per minute at a minimum running pressure of 1.7 bars. The system is designed to provide a minimum continuous water flow of 24000 litres per minute with three hydrants operating at the same time.
