HK Search and Rescue Team leaves for Sichuan

A 20-member search and rescue team from the Hong Kong SAR Government left early this morning (May 15) for the earthquake disaster area in Sichuan.

The team, led by a Senior Divisional Officer of the Fire Services Department (FSD), comprises 15 firemen and three ambulancemen who are members of the FSD Special Rescue Squad, as well as a medical officer and a registered nurse from the Department of Health.

The approximately four tonnes of equipment the team is taking includes life detectors and masonry cutting machines.

The team left for Chengdu on Air China flight number CA428. They will join local rescue teams to start search and rescue work on arrival.

The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu, Mr Richard F C Luk, and the Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Sichuan Provincial People's Government, Mr He Ping, greeted a 20-member search and rescue team from the Hong Kong SAR Government at the Chengdu airport early this morning (May 15).
