Station Officer
Entry Salary :
Point 5 to Point 7 of the Reference General Disciplined Services (Officer) Pay Scale [See Note (1)] ($21,830 to $24,650), as commensurate with respective entry qualifications.
Duties :
  1. to take charge of a fire station or an emergency appliance;
  2. to provide training for firemen;
  3. to command firemen and lead them in emergency and fire protection duties;
  4. to take part in administrative duties, e.g. staff management, planning duties, etc.
(Note : subject to discipline, required to work shifts and to wear uniform.)
Entry Requirements : Candidates should:
  1. have
    (a)
    a Hong Kong degree, or equivalent, with a valid pass in the two language papers, i.e. “Use of Chinese” and “Use of English” in the Common Recruitment Examination [formerly known as Common Recruitment Examination (Part 1)] [See Note (2)] ($24,650 per month); or
    (b)
    a Hong Kong degree, or an accredited Associate Degree from a Hong Kong tertiary institution, or a Higher Diploma from a Hong Kong polytechnic university / polytechnic / Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education / technical college, or a Diploma from a registered post-secondary college issued after the date of its registration, or equivalent, AND Grade E or above in Chinese language and English language (Syllabus B) in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent ($23,260 per month); or
    (c)
    a pass in 2 subjects at Advanced Level in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination plus 3 other subjects at Grade C or above in HKCEE, or equivalent, AND Grade E or above in Chinese language and English language (Syllabus B) in HKCEE (if not included in the aforesaid 3 subjects), or equivalent ($21,830 per month); or
    (d)
    a Diploma in Chemical Technology, Management Studies, Public Administration, Personnel Management, Aircraft Engineering or Marine Electronic Technology from a Hong Kong polytechnic university / polytechnic, or equivalent, AND Grade E or above in Chinese language and English language (Syllabus B) in HKCEE, or equivalent ($21,830 per month).
  2. be able to pass an Eyesight Test (without spectacles).
  3. be able to pass the Physical Fitness Test and Job-related Performance Test (please refer to Fire Services Department website or call the recruitment hotline for details).
  4. be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English.
Terms of Appointment :
  1. Civil service vacancies are posts on the civil service establishment. Candidates selected for these vacancies will be appointed on civil service terms of appointment and conditions of service and will become civil servants on appointment.
  2. New recruits will be appointed on prevailing probationary terms and will be offered the prevailing permanent terms upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
  3. Before passage of probation bar, appointees should
    (a) pass an examination at the conclusion of the Initial Training Course;
    (b) pass various assessment examinations throughout the probation period; and
    (c) pass the physical fitness assessment before confirmation.

Notes :
  1. Reference pay scale is the pay scale introduced on 1 April 2000 for appointment on starting salaries.
  2. An overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in one sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is accepted as equivalent to a pass in the “Use of English” paper in the Common Recruitment Examination within 2 years from the date of the IELTS test.
  3. New recruits to the civil service must be a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region permanent resident.
  4. Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority should attach copies of their academic qualification documents to the application form.

  6.   7. Applicants, except those who submit their application on-line to Civil Service Bureau website, should attach 2 stamped, self-addressed envelopes to their application forms. Where applicants have provided an e-mail address, acknowledgement of receipt will be made electronically to the same e-mail address. On the other hand, on-line applicants will receive an on-line application number upon completion of electronic submission.
